Colour loving

Having fun today 'researching' design things. Designer friend, Molly Z, recommended I check out design community blogging colourlovers. I love a site where you can interact with the content, make and save things. Kind of like olio board, but for color! Decor lovers, you'll like this site too since they reference interior design seasonal color trends.

I just checked back on the website, and my pattern is up! I'm cool!

I'm also in the painful process of populating a portfolio website for myself, so being online has become even more distracting these days! Hope to reveal the website in the next week or so. If I've done a project for you, you'll have to stop by and see if it's up!

Salmon with warm lentil salad

Last night I tried this recipe from real simple, and the leftovers got even more delicious overnight! If you're not into salmon, just try making the lentil salad. You will not be disappointed!!

 

Ingredients

• 1 cup green lentils, rinsed
• kosher salt and black pepper
• 2 tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon olive oil
• 1 1/4 pounds skinless salmon fillet, cut into 4 pieces
• 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
• 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard (or not)
• 1/4 red onion, chopped
• 1/2 cup chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley
• 1 bunch arugula, torn (about 4 cups)
• 1 lemon, cut into wedges

Directions

1. Bring 4 cups water to a boil. Add the lentils and 1 teaspoon salt and simmer, stirring occasionally, until tender, 20 to 25 minutes. Drain.
2. Meanwhile, heat 1 teaspoon of the oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat.
3. Season the salmon with ¼ teaspoon each salt and pepper and cook until opaque throughout, 4 to 5 minutes per side.
4. In a large bowl, combine the vinegar, mustard (or not), onion, parsley, remaining 2 tablespoons of oil, and ¼ teaspoon each salt and pepper.
5. Add the lentils and arugula to the vinaigrette and toss to combine. Serve with the salmon and squeeze lemon juice over everything.

I would just like to take a moment to thank Tracy Hogg, author of Baby Whisperer Solves All Your Problems, for her assistance in making my first few weeks at work somewhat worry-free. My dear mom friend, Katheryn, observed crying David at an early age and suggested I pick up this book and consider a 'routine'. Best advice of my life, which lead to the best relationship with an author I could ever imagine. I love this woman. I'd hug her if I met her. David's routine is predictable and includes a good amount of napping. Even when the unpredictable happens, it's not a matter of bad mommy or angry baby, just developmental adjusting. Going throughout my day at work, I've glanced down at the clock and been comforted knowing that David's doing just what we worked on in his routine. I tell myself that I'm still there 'mothering' him in routine and food choice. It's the little things these days.
